INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Rigby wallcoverings are hand made of the finest natural fibres, there may be a subtle naturally occurring variation in colour and texture. This brings a depth of colour and natural beauty that is unique to these exquisite wall coverings.
Care is required to achieve the best results. Please read these instructions fully before starting. We recommend if not confident / experienced using a professional wallpaper installer.
Inspection
- All wallcoverings are thoroughly inspected however it is important to check prior to hanging for proper colour and and any defects or damage.
- Handle carefully avoiding creasing
- Avoid high moisture areas and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight
Preparation
- Ensure walls are dry, smooth and clean
- Remove existing wallpaper
- A wallpaper primer can be used in a colour matching the backing paper to help disguise seams
Hanging
- Draw a vertical line from the ceiling to the floor. This will be your guide for one edge of the first strip of wallpaper
- Cut your first strip of wallpaper to fit your wall height allowing an extra 2 inches top and bottom. Use a very sharp knife and replace the blade after every cut to avoid tearing or pulling
- Check specific instructions for your chosen paper on what paste to use
- Do not allow paste, water or liquid to get on the wall paper as this can stain
- Carefully apply an even coat of paste to the wallpaper working from the middle outwards. Loosely fold but take care not to crease and take strip straight to wall to hang
- Paste and hang one strip of wallpaper at a time
- Use a soft bristled smoothing brush to position strip and remove and air bubbles
- You can use a wallpaper seam roller but take care not to apply too much pressure.
- Keep hands clean at all times and if any paste does get on the wallcovering wipe with a damp white cloth straight away
- Trim top and bottom to the required lengths
- Repeat for each strip
Cleaning
To maintain and clean your installed wall covering dust lightly or use a vacuum with a soft brush head attachment. Do not use cleaners or liquid as this will damage the material
